Vrouwen sprokkelen hout

Cooking on wood causes deforestation in nearly all less developed countries. Three billion people use wood or charcoal for their daily cooking. In cities gas is used more often. With the increasing price of gas people tend to return to their conventional way of cooking with wood, resulting in deforestation and desertification. In many African countries wood has become very scarce, especially in the countryside. Mostly women and children spend their days searching for wood instead of earning money in other ways. Children need approximately 4 to 6 hours per day to find wood which leads to absence from school and illiteracy.
